Next week is Heritage Week in Powerstown ETNS, and it would be great for family members to get involved with Rowan Class while we're learning about our heritage. Read this letter for more details:

This afternoon in Rowan Class we practiced letter writing to Chestnut and Ash class. We were revising the layout of the letter and paragraph writing, and it was nice to write letters to other children in the school.
Last week, Rowan Class went to the RDS Primary Science fair with their project: 'Which slows your heart rate faster: mouth breathing or nose breathing?' It was a great day for all involved, and here's a video showing some highlights.
On Thursday the bus leaves school at 8am sharp for the RDS. This is a great opportunity for the children to see Science projects made by other primary and secondary school students from all over Ireland, as well as visiting exhibitions by educators and businesses. But first and foremost this day is for Rowan Class to showcase their own project: 'Which slows your heart rate faster, mouth breathing or nose breathing?' Because tomorrow is a day off for the children (not the teachers!), make sure they review their notes and their job for Thursday. Their jobs are:
Group 1: Victor (Results), Sumukh & Lea (Interactive Display), Jasmin (Welcome and prediction box). Group 2: Seema (Results), Daniela & Candy (Interactive Display), Rhema (Welcome and prediction box). Group 3: Loic (Results), Hassan & Bianca (Interactive Display), Eunice (Welcome and prediction box). Group 4: Milena (Results), Kelvin & Ayub (Interactive Display), Abigail (Welcome and prediction box). Please encourage them to make a presentation at home and feel confident talking about the project. I will attach some photos of parts of the display: The Primary Science Project is coming along nicely. Today, Rowan Class were writing up the results of the project and working on displays. It's going to be a grear exhibition!
Today Rowan Class worked with Paul, a percussion tutor from the National Symphony Orchestra, who taught us about lots of different instruments and sound effects used in movies. Then, we learned how to play The Black Eyed Peas' song 'I Gotta Feeling' on boomwhackers. Here's a clip: This week we were learning about different types of Discrimination in class. The children each wrote an acrostic poem titled 'Discrimination', and then we wrote one poem as a whole class collaboration. Here's the result! TOMORROW is Wear Red Day. Students are all invited to wear red clothes to make a statement that P.E.T.N.S does not tolerate racism. Here's a video made by our Student Council (including Milena, Seema, Candy and Kay): Today we spent the day at the eHealth Exhibition at the Science Gallery in Trinity. We were able to interact with new technologies, build using Minecraft, and get ideas for our Primary Science project in January.
Some people even got to try simulated surgery using VR technology, play an ipad game powered by brainwaves and we even got interviewed by Newstalk FM. Thanks to Eva and Anita for helping out with the trip |
