Rowan class
Welcome to our Blog!
This week we will be celebrating World Book Day (Thursday 2nd March) in Powerstown E.T.N.S. with a series of in-school events all week. The main aim is to encourage children to explore the pleasure of books and reading by providing them opportunities to read books within school and also at home. We are holding the following events in school during the week that we would love your support in: 1. Shared Reading: You are invited to come and join us for ‘Shared Reading’ events in each class during the week. ‘Shared Reading’ is a fun time where parents read story books to small groups of children. Books in other languages are welcomed! ‘Shared Reading’ in Rowan Class is on Thursday 2nd March 13:40. 2. Dress as a book character Day Thursday 2nd March: Your child is invited to come to school dressed as their favourite book character for the day! We will be having a parade in the morning around the school, dressed as our favourite characters. Ideas for costumes are here: http://www.worldbookday.com/dressing-up/ 3. Poster Competition: Home Project:
Children are encouraged to enter this competition by drawing or painting a scene, setting or a character from their favourite book. This should be completed at home with parents. There will be a prize for one child from each class and a display board of the posters.

As you know, we are putting on a performance of The Jungle Book in June in Powerstown ETNS. All the children will be involved, but Rowan Class pupils will have a big part to play as they are the senior class.
Mike has set up a website that has all the lyrics and music of the songs that the children should be practicing. Children can log in to the site using their school emails and passwords. See the site here: https://sites.google.com/powerstownet.com/dramaresources/music?authuser=1 As you may be aware we are aiming for our third green flag this year at Powerstown E.T. This flag comes under the theme of Water. The green team and the whole school are doing great work to raise awareness of water conservation but we would love parents to get involved too. We would appreciate it if you could fill in the quick survey below about your water use at home. It should only take a few minutes and will help towards getting our next green flag.
