This month we are learning about Human Rights, particularly about the Right to Freedom of Expression. As part of this, we were looking at the life of Nelson Mandela. Each group gave their presentations on Friday. Well done to Green Group for winning best prize, but the standard was very high all round. Feedback on the written reports is coming on Monday!
Heritage Week 2017 was a great success in Rowan Class. We had a visit from underwater archaeologist Aisling Collins who told us all about her job. We visited the Mini Museum in school and studied some of the old artefacts, and we also had a chance to see some of our own old artefacts: a porcelain shoe, hundred year old clock, Romanian traditional dress and Slovakian traditional poppyseed cake were all brought into class. Thanks to Abigail, Jasmin, Daniela and Lea for that!
Next week is Heritage Week in Powerstown ETNS, and it would be great for family members to get involved with Rowan Class while we're learning about our heritage. Read this letter for more details:
This afternoon in Rowan Class we practiced letter writing to Chestnut and Ash class. We were revising the layout of the letter and paragraph writing, and it was nice to write letters to other children in the school.
Last week, Rowan Class went to the RDS Primary Science fair with their project: 'Which slows your heart rate faster: mouth breathing or nose breathing?' It was a great day for all involved, and here's a video showing some highlights.
On Thursday the bus leaves school at 8am sharp for the RDS. This is a great opportunity for the children to see Science projects made by other primary and secondary school students from all over Ireland, as well as visiting exhibitions by educators and businesses. But first and foremost this day is for Rowan Class to showcase their own project: 'Which slows your heart rate faster, mouth breathing or nose breathing?' Because tomorrow is a day off for the children (not the teachers!), make sure they review their notes and their job for Thursday. Their jobs are:
Group 1: Victor (Results), Sumukh & Lea (Interactive Display), Jasmin (Welcome and prediction box). Group 2: Seema (Results), Daniela & Candy (Interactive Display), Rhema (Welcome and prediction box). Group 3: Loic (Results), Hassan & Bianca (Interactive Display), Eunice (Welcome and prediction box). Group 4: Milena (Results), Kelvin & Ayub (Interactive Display), Abigail (Welcome and prediction box). Please encourage them to make a presentation at home and feel confident talking about the project. I will attach some photos of parts of the display: |
